The Financial Services Authority (FSA) took part in an roadshow to the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong, held by several investment and financial institutions from the Sultanate of Oman, with the participation of the Oman Investment Authority, Muscat Stock Exchange and Muscat Clearing and Depository Company, alongside several private sector institutions. The roadshow aimed to strengthen economic, financial and investment cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman, the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong, and explore new opportunities for cooperation and partnerships between financial and economic institutions.
H.E. Abdullah bin Salim Al Salmi, Executive President at the FSA, led the FSA delegation participating in the visit. The programme included a series of meetings with financial and investment entities and institutions in mainland China and Hong Kong, during which opportunities for cooperation in capital markets, investment and financial products, regulatory and supervisory cooperation, and cross-border investments were discussed. The meetings also provided an opportunity to exchange expertise and experiences in the development of financial markets and investment products.
The FSA also held meetings with the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) and the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), during which the parties discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between regulatory authorities and exchange regulatory expertise and practices, in support of developing regulatory and supervisory frameworks and enhancing the efficiency of financial markets. The visit also included meetings with a number of private financial and investment institutions to learn about their experiences and practices in investment and financial product development, and to explore opportunities for partnerships and joint cooperation, contributing to opening new prospects for investment and financial institutions in the Sultanate of Oman, China and Hong Kong.
The visit also included, on the sidelines of this year’s China International Silk Conference, a presentation on Oman’s financial market, highlighting the market’s strengths and available investment opportunities, as well as the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts to develop the financial services sector and enhance the investment environment. The presentation also focused on raising awareness of the Omani market among Chinese institutions and investors, exploring opportunities to develop cross-border investment initiatives, and strengthening investment channels between the Sultanate of Oman, the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong, contributing to the diversification of investment opportunities and the expansion of partnerships between financial and investment institutions.
The visit comes within the context of the growing relations between the Sultanate of Oman, the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong, and the shared interest in expanding cooperation across economic, financial and investment fields and strengthening engagement between relevant institutions, in a manner that serves mutual interests and supports future investment and cooperation opportunities. These efforts also reflect the goals of Oman Vision 2040 to enhance the Sultanate of Oman’s attractiveness as an investment destination, diversify investment opportunities, strengthen the competitiveness of the financial sector, and open further channels for cooperation and investment with Chinese, Hong Kong and global markets, thereby enhancing the Sultanate of Oman’s presence in the international investment landscape.
