OCGS Organize a Workshop on Governance in Government Institutions at TRA

 

The Oman Centre for Governance and Sustainability (OCGS) has organized a workshop  on the governance in government institutions for the executive management and secretariat of the Board of Directors of Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) with participation of 40 trainees at TRA premises, Airport Heights

 

The aim of the workshop is to  acquaint the employees of TRA with the key practices of wise governance and the mechanism for benefiting from the principles of governance in organizing the  work of regulatory and supervisory institutions  and how to deal with the regulated entities to attain the objects and upgrade the standards of the rendered service.

 

The workshop covered topics on  governance, emergence, key elements and the need for governance in reorganization of the  institutions beside  talking on the evolution of governance in the Sultanate since the issuance of the code of corporate governance by the Capital Market Authority until the issuance of the Royal Decree establishing OCGS as entity entrusted with spreading the culture of governance and enhancing its practices.

 

The workshop also tackled  issues such as the evolution of governance  from a concept specifically coined for corporates to the universal concept of governance of regulators and the governance practices for  regulator such as vision, independence, powers, fairness and equality so as to resist regulatory capture.

 

The workshop also tackled  the key principles of governance which are communication and interaction to enhance the regulatory process which includes legislation, regulation and enforcement. It also  covered  performance assessment for its importance to supervisory institutions.

 

The workshop included practical training and case studies for factual and virtual issues on the application of governance.
