11 June 2026 – Muscat, Oman: The Financial Services Authority (FSA) held a meeting with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as part of the IMF’s 2026 visit to the Sultanate of Oman under the regular consultations conducted pursuant to Article IV of the IMF’s Articles of Agreement. The visit, hosted by Oman until mid-June, comes within the framework of ongoing cooperation between Oman and the IMF to monitor economic and financial developments and review the outlook for economic growth and financial stability, through a series of meetings with various government entities and relevant institutions. This contributes to enhancing the resilience of the national economy and supporting sustainable growth.
The delegation of the FSA was led by H.E. Abdullah bin Salim Al Salmi, Executive President of the FSA, while the IMF delegation was led by Abdullah Al Hassan, Head of the IMF mission to Oman, accompanied by experts specialising in economic and financial affairs.
The meeting discussed a range of topics related to the financial markets and insurance sector, most notably the impact of regional geopolitical developments on financial markets and the insurance sector, as well as measures taken to strengthen financial stability and enhance sector readiness to address potential risks and challenges.
It also addressed efforts to deepen financial markets, including the development of debt markets, enhancing liquidity, expanding the base of local and foreign investors, diversifying financing and investment instruments, and continuing to develop the financial market infrastructure to improve efficiency and attract investment.
The two sides further discussed developments in Gulf financial market integration and sustainable finance, including the adoption of sustainability disclosure standards IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, as well as efforts to develop regulatory and legislative frameworks supporting green and sustainable financial instruments.
The meeting also reviewed developments in foreign investment in the capital market, updates on initial public offerings, and efforts to enhance market depth, increase liquidity, and broaden the investor base, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of financial markets in the Sultanate of Oman.
These consultations represent an opportunity to exchange views on policies and measures that support economic resilience and financial stability, contributing to sustainable economic growth, enhancing the national economy’s readiness to adapt to regional and global changes, and reinforcing constructive cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the IMF.
