FSA to host Accounting and Auditing Profession Forum in Oman

19 July 2026

News

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is set to host the Accounting and Auditing Profession Forum in the Sultanate of Oman under the theme "Professional Standards for Enhancing Credibility". The forum is intended for accounting and auditing firms and professionals working in the sector and will take place on 26–27 July 2026. It forms part of the FSA's ongoing efforts to regulate and develop the profession, strengthen the capabilities of firms operating in the sector, and enhance the quality of professional practice in line with international standards and evolving legislative and regulatory requirements.

The forum builds on the FSA's annual engagement with licensed accounting and auditing firms and their practitioners, following the inaugural forum held in September 2025. It aims to highlight the latest regulatory and supervisory developments introduced since responsibility for regulating the accounting and auditing profession was transferred from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion to the FSA under Royal Decree No. 20/2024, establishing the Financial Services Authority and issuing its Statute. The initiative reflects the FSA's continued commitment to developing the profession, strengthening compliance, and promoting higher standards of professional practice.

During the forum, the FSA will present the most significant harmful practices identified by its inspection teams during 2025 and 2026, with the objective of improving professional compliance and enhancing the performance of licensed firms. The programme will also cover the implementation of the trainee accountants register, the requirements of the International Standard on Quality Management (ISQM 1), key practical considerations for its implementation within firms, and its role in strengthening audit quality and improving quality management systems in line with modern professional requirements.

The first day will conclude with an open discussion bringing together the FSA and representatives of accounting and auditing firms to address participants' questions and receive their views and recommendations, contributing to the continued development of the profession's regulatory environment and strengthening collaboration with practitioners. The second day will be dedicated to a specialised training programme focusing on the International Standards on Auditing (ISAs), alongside practical case studies and professional experiences.

The accounting and auditing profession is one of the fundamental pillars supporting the reliability of financial information and the integrity of the financial system. It strengthens the confidence of government entities, private sector institutions and investors by providing independent and objective assurance over the accuracy and quality of financial information. The FSA remains committed to advancing the profession and enhancing the quality of professional practice through a comprehensive regulatory framework aligned with international best practice, thereby strengthening the efficiency of the non-banking financial sector and supporting market stability and sustainable growth
