The Sultanate represented by the Capital Market Authority participated in the 8th meeting of the Union of Arab Securities Commissions held in Marrakesh, Morocco on Thursday May 8, 2014. HE Sheikh Abdullah Salim Al Salmi, Executive President of CMA chaired the delegation which comprised Badr Salim Al Mahrouqi from the office of the Executive President.
The meeting discussed the main developments in the Arab markets during the past period in addition to the developments in the global economy and its impact on global markets. The meeting also discussed a report on the investor awareness and education in the markets of the member countries, related party transactions, enhancing transparency and other issues relating to internal affairs of the Union.
The Union was established in 2007 to enhance Arab economic integration through compatibility of laws and regulations to upgrade the legislative and regulatory levels to achieve fairness, efficiency and transparency, cooperation in the regulation of public offering of securities, encouraging establishment of specialized financial services companies including underwriters, promotion of new issues, joint listing and trading in Arab securities markets, cross border investments and dissemination of investment awareness in the member countries.
