The Financial Services Authority (FSA) affirms that the unified motor insurance policy, under both comprehensive and third party coverage, provides protection against damages resulting from natural disasters, including hail, wadis and storms. However, it requires policyholders to take all necessary precautions to safeguard lives and vehicles, avoid risking crossing wadis, and adhere to the instructions of the Royal Oman Police. Intentionally crossing wadis or failing to follow instructions may result in the forfeiture of compensation rights if an incident occurs.
Accordingly, insurance companies do not compensate for vehicles swept away in wadis due to deliberate actions by the vehicle owner, or if the vehicle is left in a wadi path without taking the necessary precautions.
Furthermore, Article 49/8 of the Omani Traffic Law stipulates: “Any driver who intentionally crosses wadis in a manner that endangers their life, the lives of passengers, or others shall be punished with imprisonment for a period not exceeding three (3) months, or a fine not exceeding OMR 500, or both.”
May Allah protect you all and make these rains a source of blessing for the country and its people.
