FSA wraps up Health Economics training programme

01 November 2026

News

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has wrapped up its specialised training programme in Health Economics, with the participation of 35 male and female trainees representing regulatory authorities and institutions operating in the sector. These included the FSA, the Ministry of Health, insurance companies, and health insurance claims management companies.

The programme focused on developing regulatory and technical skills and enhancing the use of data to improve the efficiency of insurance and supervisory operations, thereby supporting the sustainability of the health insurance market in the Sultanate of Oman.

The programme spanned four weeks of training and covered a range of economic, regulatory, and technical topics related to embedding health economics principles in the health insurance sector. These included the fundamentals of health economics, the economics of insurance operations, digital health and medical coding systems, and advanced analytics in the healthcare sector. Approximately 40% of the training content was dedicated to practical applications.

The programme also focused on developing participants’ capabilities in analysing healthcare financing mechanisms and understanding the factors influencing health insurance pricing and claims management. In addition, it sought to strengthen their skills in using data to assess market performance and detect cases of fraud, waste, and abuse, thereby contributing to greater operational efficiency and the protection of beneficiaries’ rights.

Furthermore, the programme addressed technical aspects related to Dhamani platform, the National Health Insurance Platform, medical coding systems, and the use of advanced analytics to enhance supervisory practices and support evidence-based decision-making. These efforts are intended to strengthen transparency and improve the effectiveness of oversight across the health insurance market.

The programme forms part of the FSA’s ongoing efforts to develop specialized national expertise in the health insurance sector and strengthen integration between regulatory authorities, healthcare institutions, and insurance providers. These initiatives contribute to advancing professional practices, improving the efficiency of insurance services, and supporting the long-term sustainability of the health insurance market in the Sultanate of Oman.
