Al Mamari:

  • Advanced technologies contribute to speeding procedures and enhancing the quality of healthcare services, thereby strengthening beneficiaries’ satisfaction and confidence in the health insurance system.
  • Efforts are ongoing to connect all pharmacies in the Sultanate of Oman to the platform, paving the way for the provision of value-added services, including prescription services.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) affirmed that the National Health Insurance Platform (Dhamani) had achieved a significant transformation in the regulation of the health insurance market since its launch. The platform had recorded over 20 million digital transactions and processed over 92 million insurance claims with a value exceeding RO 92 million. It had also reduced the time required to settle medical and financial approvals among the parties involved in the insurance process through the integration of hospitals, health centres and clinics with insurance companies, thereby strengthening coordination between healthcare and insurance services and expanding the benefits of the system.

This was highlighted by Ahmed bin Ali Al Mamari, Executive Vice President at the FSA, in the opening remarks at the Dhamani Forum, held by the FSA under the theme ‘In Partnership with Doctors, We Expand Dhamani’s Success’. The forum aimed to familiarise medical professionals with the platform and brought over 200 doctors from various specialties.

The forum was also held in recognition of the important role doctors played in the success of the system, as the effectiveness of digital solutions depended on medical professionals’ understanding of their procedures and their ability to utilise them in serving patients. The forum also provided a platform for dialogue and the exchange of observations based on practical experience, contributing to the further development of the system in response to users’ needs.

The forum aimed to raise awareness among medical professionals about the Dhamani system and its operating mechanisms, as well as introduce them to its role in facilitating insurance procedures and improving the patient journey. This enhanced integration between medical practice and insurance services and improved the efficiency of services provided to beneficiaries.

In his remarks, Al Mamari explained that the health insurance sector represented an essential pillar in ensuring the sustainability of the healthcare system. He noted that the diversity of healthcare services, rising costs and the complexity of procedures across the healthcare and insurance sectors made digital transformation essential to improving the efficiency of the system and enhancing the beneficiary experience. He added that the use of modern technologies contributed to accelerating procedures and improving service quality, thereby strengthening beneficiaries’ satisfaction and confidence in the health insurance system.

Al Mamari pointed out that the Dhamani platform served as a link between medical care and insurance procedures through the automation of processes, regulation of relationships among the parties involved in the system, and the establishment of a unified medical record for insured persons. This supported greater integration between medical decisions and health insurance decisions, contributing to the delivery of more efficient and interconnected services.

He added that efforts were continuing to connect all pharmacies in the Sultanate of Oman to the platform, paving the way for the introduction of specialised services, including electronic prescription services, through integrated connectivity between pharmacies, hospitals and insurance companies. This would further improve the beneficiary experience and enhance the efficiency of healthcare and insurance services.

The forum addressed the impact of the Dhamani platform on facilitating procedures related to medical services, its role in promoting digital health and the use of business intelligence applications, as well as reviewing the platform’s experience from the perspective of regional experts. It also included an interactive panel discussion bringing together specialists from the healthcare and insurance sectors to discuss the current state of the system and its development requirements, in addition to introductory sessions highlighting the platform’s capabilities and services.

The forum formed part of the joint efforts undertaken by insurance companies and private hospitals to support the success of the Dhamani platform by raising awareness among medical professionals of its operating mechanisms and its role in facilitating the patient journey. Since its launch, the platform had recorded more than 20 million digital transactions and processed over 92 million insurance claims valued at over RO 92 million. Efforts were also continuing to complete the integration of all hospitals, health centres and clinics, thereby strengthening coordination between healthcare and insurance services and expanding access to the system.

The forum reflected the FSA’s commitment to involving medical professionals in the development of the health insurance system, strengthening their knowledge of its procedures and drawing on their expertise to improve the beneficiary experience and accelerate access to services.

Dhamani was the national platform for the electronic exchange of health insurance information and transactions between healthcare and insurance institutions in the Sultanate of Oman, contributing to simplified procedures and facilitating insured persons’ access to healthcare services.
